Speaker Bios

Magdalena Yesil, Founder Broadway Angels, Founding board member Salesforce

Magdalena is a founder of Broadway Angels and the founding board member and first investor of Salesforce. She served on the board of Salesforce from inception to post IPO. Magdalenahas been active in Silicon Valley for three decades. Most recently, she spent eight years as a general partner at the venture capital firm US Venture Partners (USVP), making investments in a broad spectrum of technology startups.

She has been an early investor in over 30 companies including theRealReal, Socialcast (acquired by VMWare), Catch (acquired by Apple), Freshplum (acquired by TellApart and Twitter), Dotomi (acquired by ValueClick), 3Ware (acquired by AMCC), Valicert (IPO), 128Technology, Securify (acquired by Kroll), iEscrow (acquired by eBay), and many others.

Prior to her investing career, Magdalena was a serial entrepreneur, founding two successful electronic commerce companies, CyberCash (IPO) – a secure electronic payment systems provider that had startups like Amazon as its customer, enabling the e-commerce industry, and MarketPay, an embedded payments software company.

Magdalena was a pioneer in the commercialization of the Internet in its early days, helping it move out of the government and university domains and in establishing the infrastructure for e-commerce and financial transaction platforms. When her plan to purchase Internet access providers from universities would not get funded by venture capitalists, she joined UUnet (IPO), the first commercial Internet access provider. Magdalena was chosen Entrepreneur of the Year in 1997 by Red Herring magazine. She started her career as a semiconductor design engineer at Advanced Micro Devices.

Magdalena holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering, both from Stanford University. She has spent the last few years working on international peace diplomacy and refugee issues in the Middle East. She is an immigrant to the United States and is an Armenian from Turkey.

Jess Lee, Partner at Sequoia Capital

Jess Lee is a partner at Sequoia Capital. Previously, she held leadership positions at Google and Polyvore. While at Google, Jess was a product manager for Google Maps. Jess joined Polyvore as a product manager in 2008 after providing their co-founder with feedback on issues with the website. She was later named VP of Product, an honorary co-founder, and ultimately CEO. Polyvore was acquired by Yahoo in 2015. Jess holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University. She has been featured in Fortune Magazine’s 40 Under 40 list and Glamour Magazine’s Top 35 Under 35 Women in Tech.

George Gallegos, CEO at Jitterbit

George has more than 20 years of leadership experience in the enterprise software space. Prior to Jitterbit, George was a founding member of C3, a Tom Siebel venture focused on energy and carbon management. Previously, George was vice president of worldwide sales at Cast Iron Systems, leading global field operations for the integration appliance vendor prior to its acquisition by IBM. George has also served as regional vice president at Oracle and Siebel Systems, leading the most successful sales team in the history of the company.

​Caroline Simard, Research Director at Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University

Caroline Simard is passionate about building better workplaces for diverse talent through evidence-based solutions. As Research Director at Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University, she is responsible for leading research designed to build more effective and inclusive organizations. Previously, she was Associate Director of Diversity and Leadership at the Stanford School of Medicine, where she implemented innovative models for increasing work-life integration to increase faculty satisfaction and retention.

Prior to joining Stanford University, Caroline was Vice President of Research and Executive Programs at the Anita Borg Institute (ABI) for Women and Technology, where she led the creation and dissemination of research-based solutions to further gender diversity in scientific and technical careers, working with leading technology companies and academic institutions. Prior to ABI, Simard was a Researcher at the Center for Social Innovation of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and an Associate Director of Executive Programs.

Caroline holds a PhD from Stanford University and a Masters from Rutgers University. Her publications have focused on technical human and social capital, solutions to recruit, retain, and advance women in technology, underrepresented minority talent in STEM, the diffusion of best practices, open innovation, and social networks.

Steven Aldrich, Chief Product Officer at GoDaddy

It’s Steven’s job to set and execute GoDaddy’s vision of providing elegant, end-to-end technology solutions for GoDaddy’s more than 14.5 million small business customers. He also heads up the Online Bookkeeping and WorkSpace teams. Steven brings over a decade of experience at Intuit, where he built solutions to help small businesses use the Web to grow and run their stores. He also has small business experience as the founder of a Web company that simplified shopping for insurance. Steven earned an M.B.A. from Stanford and a B.A. in physics from University of North Carolina.
